We are an approved Workstep provider for the Department of Work & Pensions currently contracted by JobCentre Plus.

The aim of WORKSTEP is to provide support in jobs for people with disabilities who have more complex barriers to finding and keeping work but who, with the right support, are able to make a valuable contribution in their job and where appropriate, develop and progress to open employment.

The programme places emphasis on helping people to progress to mainstream employment where this is the right option. Through the WORKSTEP package, Agoriad offers the following opportunities:

  • Develop and improve an individuals job skills and employability including the ability to work with others and to sustain a job.
  • Meet the requirements of disabled people facing the most significant barriers to working and who need continuing support over a period.
  • Encourage personal development and promote independence for disabled people.
  • Encourage employers to participate in the development and support of their employee.
  • Enable individuals to work effectively in a job, focusing on their requirements and their employers requirements in a planned and structured way.

Agoriad is able to offer wide ranging support and practical help to employers and employees. Examples of this include job trainers or job coaching, mentoring from colleagues, through to providing advice and awareness to the employer and employees. Financial support may also be appropriate for some supported employees, in most circumstances this would be time limited or involve an agreed tapering of support over time.

Gerddi Twt LogoGerddi Twt

For the past three years, a combination of Anglesey’s Service Level agreement and the Supporting People with Disabilities Grant scheme has funded the Gerddi Twt project based in Holyhead for people with mental health needs.
Gerddi Twt currently provides work experience in a supportive environment for around 15 people with mental health disabilities.

The Gerddi Twt project provides clients with

  • real experience of attending for work appropriately,
  • working with a team and using initiative,
  • meeting customer and work demands,
  • meeting deadlines for completion of tasks,
  • socially inclusive activity
  • importantly, the self-esteem, confidence and satisfaction of producing garden items and providing horticultural services to the local communities.

Administrative and practical management of referrals is conducted by Agoriad. On site supervision is through a supervisory post, an employee of IACC. Further support, mediation and job coaching is provided by Agoriad project staff.

This year’s grant will further expand the project in numbers of clients accommodated on the project, and geographic expansion to access clients and customers throughout the Isle of Anglesey. Shop Front retail experience will be provided to those clients who wish to experience this. This will also serve to improve the longer-term sustainability of the project.
It is anticipated that up to 50% of the clients will benefit from a work placement service, while other clients may wish to set up their own business with support from Gerddi Twt, and it is envisaged that this form of Enterprise Incubation will enable the progression of some clients into self-employment. This might be in aspects of horticulture/agriculture, carpentry, retail and sales or another business idea that can be supported by Gerddi Twt and Agoriad.
